According to new Department of Health Regional Director Asuncion Anden, among provinces in the region,
Bohol is in the forefront in attaining the Mid Decade Goals (MDGs) for health. She lauded the province’s leadership headed by Gov. Edgar M. Chatto for forging strong partnerships to make sure health remains at the top of the development agenda.
Anden, who replaced Susanna Madarieta, said this will be Bohol’s contribution to the nationwide objective of universal health care.
In 2011, DOH launched the Community Health Team (CHT) Mobilization campaign to guarantee that every family in the community is periodically visited and attended by health providers as part of government’s efforts to achieve this objective also tagged as Kalusugan Pangkalahatan.
The CHT Mobilization teams (CHTs) do nationwide door-to-door visit to reach all families, especially the poorest Filipino households, identified through the DSWD’s National Household Targeting System (NHTS). The CHT Mobilization links these families to social service providers, provide critical social services when needed, and deliver key health messages.
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Reymoses Cabagnot said the Provincial Government’s adaption of a parallel strategy in the much-talked about Countryside Development Program – Purok Power Movement addresses the very same concerns.
The CDP-PPM’s distinctiveness lies in its all-encompassing intent, applying the same principle in all other fields such as agriculture, education, tourism, livelihood, among others.
Chatto for his part reported continued partnership with DOH for hospital facilities and equipment upgrade.
Just last week, DOH Sec. Enrique Ona inspected the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital and discussed the impending construction of a new 500-bed capacity modern regional hospital with Chief Dr. Nenita Moraga-Po. Upgrade for the province’s 10 devolved hospitals are also ongoing under the Health Modernization Program for 2012.
However, Chatto said leadership has not lost sight of goal to strengthen primary health care to ensure quality health services are provided to all Boholanos. This target also strongly backs up the tourism industry as rural health centers can become points of care for both domestic and international visitors.
The forum which was also attended by mayors led by LMP President Trinidad Mayor Roberto Cajes also became venue for LGUs to bring up concerns on health facilities in respective municipalities. The group also sought a resolution for health insurance coverage through Philhealth for NHTS-listed constituents.
Kalusugan Pangkalahatan under the PNoy administration seeks to address inadequate government subsidy for financial risk protection through expansion in National Health Insurance Program, limited access to quality health care facilities, and attainment of MDGs especially for Maternal and Child Health.
Anden also turned over to Cajes DOH funding form 2010 for Maternal, Neonatal and Child Health Nutrition (MNCHN) for the LGUs.
