Bohol First District Congressman and House Tourism Committee Chairman Edgar M. Chatto received loud applause and praises as he addresses over 500 participating delegates from 95
countries of the 5th UN WTO International Forum for a Parliamentarians and Local Authorities
which reeled off in Yasmine Hammamet Tunisia in North Africa, Tuesday June 12, 2007. Chatto’s remarks focused on the country’s tourism industry and initiatives on sustainable tourism development.
Earlier, Cong. Chatto together with DOT Director Rolando Canizal represent the country in the 80th UN WTO Executive Council Meeting where he stressed the importance of tourism in poverty alleviation. Likewise, the Philippine delegation led by Chatto succeeded in securing the support of China and the 95 other countries to finally earn the privilege for the Philippine to host the 6th International Forum for Parliamentarians and Local Authorities
in 2009.
At the convention proper, Chatto was also chosen by WTO organizer to join the four-men expert panel for the discussion on the topic “Inter-Ministerial Coordination and Coherence of Tourism Policies†together with Ecuador Prime Minister of Tourism Maria Isabel Salvador, Senator Akel Biltaji of Jordan, UK Member of House of Lords RT Thomas Pendry and WTO Assistant Secretary General Geoffry Lipnan.
Secretary Ace Durano sent congratulatory message to Chatto and Dir. Canizal for the positive developments of the Philippine participation in the various events which will help put the country in the World Tourism map.
