Governor Erico B. Aumentado expressed appreciation to the Philippine Heart Center team led by Director, Dr. Ludgerio Torres and to the Heart Foundation of the Philippines thru President, Dr. Francisco Dizon for identifying Bohol to benefit from the continuous outreach missions in line with the nations thrust on the delivery of health services.

Thus, said Mrs. Fancy S. Baluyot, Consultant for Health & Social Services and President of the Philippine Gift of Life, wherein heart surgery beneficiaries coming from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao wherein 65% of patients are from Tagbilaran City and the different municipalities of Bohol availed the government-initiated surgical outreach mission.

The very expensive heart operations which was held at the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital last July 23-27, 2007 was jointly sponsored by the Provincial Government of Bohol thru Governor Erico B. Aumentado and Vice Governor Julius Caesar F. Herrera; the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) thru Honorable Chairman Sergio O. Valencia and the Philippine Gaming and Amusement Corporation (PAGCOR) thru Chairman and Chief Executive Ephraim C. Genuino supported by the Philippine Gift of Life headed by President/CEO, Mrs. Fancy S. Baluyot and Vice President, Rev. Fr. Victor G. Bompat; Department of Health (DOH) thru Honorable Secretary, Dr. Francisco Doque III and Director, Dr. Elmer Punzalan; Home Reach Foundation thru Chairman, Dr. Pepe Recitas, Co-Chairman, Dr. Ramie Cadag and Director, Mr. Richard Uy; Congressman Edgar M. Chatto; Congressman Roberto C. Cajes; Congressman Adam Relson L. Jala; Hildegardeans ’89 thru its President, Mr. Joseph S. Alagon; Philippine Academy of Medical Specialists thru President, Dr. Rene Catan and Outreach Program Chairman, Dr. Federico Malubay; Philippine Air Force thru Lt. Gen. Horacio Tolentino, MGen. Jogy Leo Fojas, Col. Leo Cresente Ferrer and Lt. Col. Ramon Ruiz; Philippine Airlines Foundation thru Executive Director, Ms. Carmen Sarmiento.

Mrs. Baluyot said the heart surgical team contingent had brought most of the hospital equipments from the Philippine Heart Center via Philippine Air Force C-130 cargo plane as well as sufficient medicines and medical supplies, more than enough for all patients who sought medical and surgical assistance on the aforementioned dates.

Governor Aumentado himself oversaw the operation undertaken by a team of renowned surgeons and cardiologists headed by Dr. Torres, Dr. Dizon, Dr. Santos Jose Abad – Chief Cardiologists and Dr. Florante Lomibao – Chief Cardiovascular Surgeon during the said heart surgical mission.

Meanwhile, Governor Aumentado led provincial officials in conferring plaques of recognition to the members of the Open Heart Surgery Mission Team from the Philippine Heart Center – Heart Foundation of the Philippines and certificates of appreciation to all the medical volunteers at the Recognition Night held last July 26, 2007 at the Bohol Tropics Sandugo Grand Ballroom.

Provincial Administrator, Atty. Tomas D. Abapo, Jr. likewise gave thanks to the local committee headed by Mrs. Baluyot and Atty. Abapo; to the volunteers and supporters headed by Dr. Nenita Po, Dr. Julia Maape and Hon. Amalia Tirol, Mrs. Emma Auza – President, PNA Bohol Chapter.

Special mention also to the Philippine Gift of Life and the Office of the Consultant for Health & Social Services staff; the Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital doctors and nurses, devolved hospitals and Red Cross volunteers.
