AWARDING OF SCHOLARSHIP:

One student will be chosen as Tubag Bohol’s Scholar.  The selection will be based on the essay examination and personal interview, which will be conducted by Tubag Bohol Representatives.  Interview will be based on academic merits, achievements and potential, career goals, character, leadership, community involvement and social awareness.

A grade of 90 is, in my opinion, adequate enough. That is considered a B+ in many colleges here in the United States. I was even thinking about increasing the requirement to at least a 93 (an A-).

A 90, in my opinion, is doable. It is not hard to maintain an average of B+.

Maybe we can increase the monthly stipend. p1000.00 is, in my opinion, too little. Perhaps we can increase it to p2000.00 (around this?)

Boholanos are naturally smart. I have confidence that we can find above par student candidates quickly.

Best,
Bran Lorenzo

When we drafted the Guidelines for the FGCA Scholar it took us more than a month to finalized it because of many complications and many What ifs...

It is important that we are careful with the Guidelines and so on before offering the said Scholarship.

I even think that to offer it this June is too early. Mas maayo kon sa next year na para maayo gyod ug plano. This can be one of the topic to discuss during the Grand EB.

Just my opinion.

kay ug mag dali2x ta maka kuha na dayun ta ug dili deserving nga student, and thus lessen the essence of our goal!

BOC, You did a very good job.  Thanks.

By the way, this is only a suggestion:

If the applicant meet that qualified grade as requested ... only those applicant will be accepted if the Family really suffering under grinding poverty.  I mean... those who have a relatives who are working abroad need not to apply, is this okey?   A son and/or daughter from those  rich Bol-anons  and distinguished personalities have nothing to do with this TB program, right?

Thanks, Dong!  Agree pod ko nimo sa grade requirement.  I thought I was being considerate na for setting the grade requirement to 90.  Maybe I need to clarify that particular item na 90 average grade with no less that 87 as minimum grade to take into consideration the figure given by Sis Asianfairy.  What do you think?

As to the monthly stipend, I agree with you.  2k is more like it.  I based that estimate of 1k to our cousin's monthly allowance. :D

Sis, for the first question, I think it shouldn't be a detrimental sa atong scholar kong babae atong scholar unya mabuntis or maminyo for as long as ma maintain niya iyang grades.  If not, she'll be dropped.

Sa second concern nimo Sis, you have a point there.  Do we need to let the scholar sign a document to only work in Bohol and if our scholar, after graduation decides to go and work somewhere else, he/she pays a certain amount. Ato sa jud ning iklaro aron walay loopholes.  Kon ako pabut-on, I don't want our scholar to feel obliged.  It would be nice if he/she can serve our province but if he/she has better opportunity somewhere else, then so be it.  But that's just me.  In most cases, ipa serve man jud sa host provice like about 2 years ba kaha.

I agree with you Sis A and Maring that June is too soon to start the scholarhip.  However, if we start now the process of selection - after of course finalizing the guidelines, setting up of account, selection or election of TB representatives to represent us in the school, etc., it is not farfetch that we can start already by second semester which is in October.

BOC, I totally agree with you.  I  thought of this but how do we put into words that one of our requirements is that they should be poor?  I was thinking that in their essay that the applicants are to submit, among other things, we will screen who is the most deserving and I think the socio-economic condition of our applicants will play a big role in the selection process.

Grace, What ages will qualify for the scholarship?

If there are 4 or 5 members of the family and all of them were going to College. None of them have high
grades. Can 1 of them qualify for the scholarship program?

It will be a big help for the Parents who are struggling and need help with tuition costs.
Were not only helping the students but helping the Parents as well.

Suggest lang pod na nako.

Gem, I don't think we are setting an age requirement basta lang nka graduate ug High School para maka proceed to college.  I think Gem, ultimately, ang atong pilion ang most deserving taking into consideration the grade and income level sa parents. Kumbaga kong kinsa jud tong mag nanginahanglan.   I am hoping we have a say sa selection process like i post ang essay sa mga applicants unya syempre maghatag atong TB representative ug recommendation basing sa ilang personal interview sa applicants.

Grace, salamat kaayo sa imong time pag gama aning Guidelines, doing pretty good.

my comments:

I agree with A, it needs a lot of considerations to avoid an overlooked problem in the end that we hate to be sorry later on.

About your question Grace on how to say "poor" as one of the requirement, you can use the word " limited finances". And maybe interview the parents as well about their income status?

and lastly, please don't forget, the first reason why Manong Lindy suggested to have a scholar studying Agriculture is to have somebody who will lead in this kind of work. Which means, as soon as he/she graduated school, he/she is willing to work there and not anywhere else. After all, what's the purpose of having an agricultural scholar in Bohol, right?

Sis Ging,

Salamat.

Our FGCA secretary is a PUP scholar ug daghan sab siya experience sa iyang pagka scholar nga among nabasehan.

So far ok raman. Sa sinugdanan sa pagsugod pa niya may gipakapin nga para sa iyang school uniform.

Thanks, Beth!  I agree with all of you na di dapat pa dalos2x ta ani.  Dili man jud dayon ma perfect because we'll learn as we go along.  But at least jud plastado na atong guidelines, resources, applicants na gapilian, etc.

As to the socio=economic condition of our applicants, I find it subjective man gud ang "limited finances" or low-level income.  Let's pick up the scenario Gemma presented.  If there are 5 children in the family and 4 are already in college.  The fifth one is just way too much for the parents to send to school so na belong na sya sa "limited finances" although we really couldn't consider them as low-level income.  So I think, the selection shall be based, who among the applicants, needs the most of this scholarship award.

I know mao na atong intention of having this Agri scholar.  It was just a personal view that I had that doesn't go along with our intention here in providing this scholarship.

Again, salamat Beth for your input!  Ato man jud ko'g ma han-ay ug tarong if there are more "brains" contributing ideas here.  As they say, Two brains are better than one!   :D

BOC, thanks for re-posting this thread.  When starts this TBSP? Want to be informed...in what some other ways we could retain the financial capacity aside from that Coin Bidding and might be  other sources?   Do we have to make a yearly amount contribution for this?  I think...it needs time to realize this. I hope that Mr. Junayag and those TB members on July 2008  Grand TB EB will bring this discussion while eating Lechon pohon. Or what you think?   Asa ra man to si Pres. Lindy oi?

BOC, I totally agree with you.  I  thought of this but how do we put into words that one of our requirements is that they should be poor?  I was thinking that in their essay that the applicants are to submit, among other things, we will screen who is the most deserving and I think the socio-economic condition of our applicants will play a big role in the selection process.

Aron mahibaw-an kung low ba jud ang economy sa applicant, kinhanglan pud mag present ug income tax papers ba na or something like that ba.
Or survey-hon jud ang pibuy-anan aron masiguro.

Suggestion rani ako.

Thank you so much for all your feedback.

Jun, I will email it to you.  What do you mean by the "integrated one"? Do you want me to include already the other suggestions here?  Are all agreeable to the suggestions?  Anyhow, you must be so busy what with your forthcoming vacation to Bohol and yet you still offer to review and enhance the guidelines.  Thank you kaayo.

It's interesting what you wrote there, die young.  I guess you purposely picked the post of Lorenzo just to relieve this issue which is good so we can settle this.

I was the one who drafted the guidelines and the 90% grade I quoted, though just a suggestion, was to me a fair grade.  I aspired to be a scholar then but the minimum passing grade acceptable was 90 and even then I thought that was fair enough, which I wasn't able to attain thus I the scholarship was given to more deserving student.  Anyhow, I don't think gapasikat lang si Lorenzo na kesyo naa sya dre sa US.  Again, his suggestion was to me a valid one.  Having said that, I thank you for relieving this thread para ma straighten that at this moment, this planned program is not pushing through for many factors and one is that we could not get enough funding.  We are right now in financial dilemma ourselves so di sa lang ni nato mapadayon pagkakaron.

So thanks aron nabutangan nato ning closure.  :)
