On Topic Discussion: Respect
« on: January 26, 2009, 01:51:18 PM »
We are all respectable persons in this Forum.

And though we may have differences in opinions, we should shy away from negative personal remarks.

Respect is Earned.

Agree.

And I don't think only the Admins have the right to tell a member about their fault.

Some members are online most of the time than the admins.

So they are the ones who get annoyed, irritated and are updated about the bad or good netiquettes of some here.

Besides, some of you don't listen to the admins anyway.

So I guess it's tooooo insulting to be reprimanded by a fellow member. :D

And also, aside from the admins, there are moderators.

Tabangay lang gud..

Di man kaha ang politiko ra ang dapat mutrabaho sa kausawagan sa Pinas? imo.

Everyone has the right to share their views on topics, to partake in discussion, and show spirit of democracy.

However, there must be responsibility of actions.

Understandable that in our spirited debates in topics will be profound and academic, with two sides of the coin sharing their academic voices. Respect is guaranteed by giving ear to the voice of others. Respecting different views.

HOWEVER, when a member starts to go beyond the topic and attack the member, attack their physical appearance, their mental capacity, their position in life, their english skills or their language barrier--which is outside the frame of topic. That is a Problem.

Stick to the topic. Debate within the frame of the subject matter. Do not be trashy and and uncouth so as to use sideline tactics by using personal attacks and defamatory practices.

Again, respect is prime. Even if I disagree with an individual, so long as he or she maintains the scope of topic and defend his or her defense without attacking and lowering himself or herself with the use of personal attacks. I will respect that individual.

Be keen, be responsible, be impartial. Be respectful.

In college, I was a professional debater, a member of the Forensic Association, where we would partake in Lincoln Douglass Debates with other collegiate institutions.

We were taught that to be a good debater, one sticks to the postulate, and defends each side of the argument. Offer a counter to the opponent's refutations.

Provide specific examples to enhance your claim and repudiate the opponent's at every chance.

But we were strictly warned by the instructors and judges to EVADE the temptation in using personal attacks of the debater.

To do so not only destroys your credibility, but also weakens your defense and postulations.

Personal attacks are a sign of weakness and a chink in the defense. Personal attack are what we call, 'sideline tactics'. Its a sign of desperation.

It decides victory or loss in professional debates.

Respectfully Yours,
Always,

Bran Lorenzo

Sometimes, Ate Belle, people cannot contain their emotions. They give in to their emotions and spout out harrassment, because they are desperate.

It only makes their defense and their cause weak.

Just my honest opinion.

The point that I'm getting at, and have always reiterated in the spirit of this thread's message: is just this:

Everyone has the right to share his or her own view, to discuss, to share ideas and minds. But an individual should refrain from personal attacks. Verbal harassment is not proper, is never wanted, either it be in the internet or in physical face to face.

For individual with crass social etiquette that bear no respect to anyone and no moral or ethical reality, maybe this is their choice.

But, it should not be here. We are all educated, well brought up individuals in here. Each and every single intellectual view and opinion.

What is the point of personal attacks on people's language skills, physical appearance, location, employment status and or educational level? Aside from degrading that person and getting a despicable  self gratification? There is no reason for such actions, no grounds for personal attacks. It only brings anger, and dissension into the equation.

I will end this with a verse from the Bible that we all should hold in our hearts and Observe:

For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it      shall be opened.
Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?
Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.

-Matthew 7: 9-13

For individuals, and I will not name names, who have repetitively harassed people and verbally insulted their education, their appearance, their employmenet status, their views, with malcontent, and at the same time, ironically demands to be treated with respect and demands not to be abused, is totally and completely absurd. And given the chance, time and time again, comes and insults others with harrasment that no one in this good Earth would want to be a victim of. Where is the fairness in that? Where is the impartiality?

That, is an example of a hypocrite.

Simple raman unta ba..

Stick to the topic. Or at least talk about stuff nga related pa sa topic..

2 OT sentences are tolerable. Out of topic  YM or MSN type of discussions to most threads are not.

Or if you can't do it on YM or MSN.. Create a thread which is exclusively for it.

I'm obviously not an admin but I am a member who's almost online 24/7.

It reached to a certain point of annoyance.
