Messages re Bohol earthquake from FB
« on: October 16, 2013, 10:02:39 AM »
i read the following from a niece who's now in the US:

Dear friends,
Thank you for your concern, your thoughts and your prayers. My family in Bohol is safe, although still terrified. They spent the night outdoors, as did most of the people of the island, for fear of aftershocks that are still occurring. Many lives were lost, and 400-year old stone churches turned to rubble. I will let you know if there is a good way for those of us who are far away to help out with the rebuilding.

Hi Tita,

Thank You for keeping us updated on the situation. Please, if you know about specifics of donation on the cost of rebuilding these churches, let me know. I would like to make my own little contribution in due time. My prayers go out to the people affected, to all our friends and family back home.

Sincerely,
I remain,
Lorenzo

This is concerning for me, if Maribojoc and Loon is affected, I don't know what is going on in my own Valencia. I have sent messages to my aunts and my mom has told me that everyone in Valencia is alright, but I don't know. Probably walay electricity or food shortage pod sigoro didto. The people in my own town.  I'll send some funds when I get home on Thursday.

Tomorrow I'm driving back to New Jersey and will find out specifics. And send help.

Tita, as for the person in your second post, how can we help? I am willing to send some money to her family. Some money for food, medicine ba. Please keep me posted.

Thank You.

meanwhile, i'll let you know whatever it is that i may hear or read, lorenz.  when it comes to churches, the best receiving agency would still be the diocese of tagbilaran, i suppose.  or the parish itself.  those churches have to be rebuilt to its original form, come what may.  heritage philippines is starting to make plans, i gathered somewhere.

Thank You, Tita. I will get in contact with the Diocese of Tagbilaran in the coming weeks. I agree with you, too, that we have to rebuild these churches in their original form.

my nephew's answer, lorenz:

Auntie, i dont really know her personally...i also shared this post from my fb friends...generally, they asked help to reach for maribojoc town because it is isolated...i guess the persons/group that needs to be contacted are the lgus and the red cross...

looks like your best contact is your aunt at dilg. :)

another message i got through a cousin:

Boholanos! Since many roads and bridges are not passable and are still in danger because of the aftershocks, helicopters are the only way to distribute food and medicines. Please tell your families, relatives and friends who are in those affected areas to put marks of help on their roof for rescuers to know. Please help me spread this info guys. Thanks!

Loon and Maribojoc are badly damaged, Maribojoc is not accessible by car since the road is not passable. Agi lang sa dagat, busa si Simplylee ninghangyo kon kinsay adunay pumpboat nga mgakatabang hatag ug tubig ug food supply. Reaching Loon is circuitous and the fare is high. Maayo unta kung ipagamit sa gobyerno ang ilang mga helicopter.

yes, hof.  the coast guard is using fast crafts and helicopters, other government agencies are coordinating their relief operations, the private sector is pitching in, PAL and cebu pacific are offering free flights for relief cargo to and from bohol.  it is just to be expected that not everyone can be reached the soonest much as we want to.

The LGU is doing everything it can to help distribute food and funds! They need the assistance now of the Philippine Government , especially the Army Engineers to restore ground transportation.
