On January 6, 2010, 2:15 p.m. TubagBohol database crashed. I committed a catastrophic error while doing maintenance on our website. More than 300K posts were affected.

When the database was restored, the restoration could only cover up to Jan. 3, 2010. This means that posts from Jan. 3, 2010 up to today (Jan. 6, 2010) have disappeared.

My apologies.

After New year si Vince na involve sa bus accident. Gikan siya sa ilaha then nadaot ba to ila gisakyan so ingsakay sila sa Bus nga gikan sa Bohol ug mao to nahulog ang bus sa bangin pero I'm glad way namatay.

Because of the incident, database backup will be done on a weekly basis. Now, it's just a monthly backup. It's good that the last backup covers up to Jan. 3, 2010. What happened was that all the 314,000 posts were obliterated because of just a single SQL command. My heartbeat stopped when I saw tubagbohol absolutely empty of posts.

It's good that tubagbohol is using a virtual private server which has a feature of a segregated backup in a remote disk. The latest backup was restored into the site two hours after the fatal, heart-stopping destruction of the database.

This time I am even thinking of twice-a-week backup and store it in three separate external hard disks.

Commiserations, I lost my xmas too because of messing up something. I had to do a painstaking server rebuild because of the destruction caused by a small untested change. Though I have to partly blame the OS because its normal 'easy' restore failed.
