Last year 6.3 million people attended Oktoberfest and drank 6.5 million litres (1.7 million gallons) of beer, a particularly strong brew made specially for the event.
The Munich government's point man for Oktoberfest, Wilfried Blume-Beyerle, said visitors would be directed to the southern exits of the station toward the nearby Wiesn.
Migrants will be shown toward a staging area to the north, behind police barricades, with volunteers offering food, drink and first-aid.
Meanwhile the Oktoberfest mood was already in full-swing at the station, with stands selling dirndls, lederhosen suede trousers for men and heart-shaped Lebkuchen cakes.
Australian Ellie Hipwell, 22, on a four-month tour of Europe and trying on a new dirndl, said she had encountered hundreds of refugees on a previous stop in Budapest.
"It was heartbreaking," she said. As for Oktoberfest, she said she said she was confident German authorities would keep things under control so the party would go off without a hitch.
"It could get a little chaotic but mainly we're just ready to have a good time."
