A PUBLISHING firm has charged
University of Manila president Dr. Emily de Leon with violating the intellectual property
law.
In a four-page affidavit filed with the Quezon City Prosecutor’s Office last week, Elizabeth Ocampo of Wiseman’s Books Trading claimed that De Leon allowed the school to make unauthorized copies of four textbooks being published by her firm.
Ocampo said she would file a separate civil action for damages against the school, adding that her company lost at least P500,000 due to the unauthorized reproductions.
In her complaint, Ocampo said that the school “religiously ordered†four criminology books from 2005 to 2008. These were Forensic Photography for Criminology Students and Practitioners, Revised Police Ethics and Police Community Relations, Police Operational Planning for Criminology Students and Practitioners and Fire Behavior and Arson Investigation.
