The
University of Bohol (UB) Rockets Swimming Team soars anew as the young tankers hauled medals in various events during the 1st Aquatic Sports Association of the Philippine (ASAP) Age-Group National Interschool Invitational Swimming Competition at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila last June 27-28, 2009.
Jo Lander Molina was awarded as the Most Outstanding Swimmer for 6-years-old-and-under-boys category after winning two gold and 1 silver medals. Felliesse Karyl Ibale also finished with 2 gold and 1 bronze medals in the 9-10 years old girls category.
Other winners are Jason Ginn Lopena with 3 silver medals and 1 bronze; Nathalie Deanne Fredensborg with 1 silver medal; and Arabelle Meraul Felisarta with 1 silver and 3 bronze medals.
Some 500 swimmers from all over the country representing 81 schools/universities participated in the historic event that gave swimming a fresh start, according to ASAP President, Atty. Ma Luz Arzaga- Mendoza. “We are providing a venue for young swimmers to develop their skills in a fun-filled environment that has characterized Philippine swimming.†The event was also graced by tankers that were members of the Philippine Swimming Team and some former Olympians.
Led by Coach Vincent Indig, 16 young swimmers from the Victoriano D. Tirol – Advanced Learning Center and UB Grade School Department made it to the national competition.
The team acknowledged with gratefulness the support of the UB Administration through Atty. Nuevas T. Montes; the UB Alumni Association, Inc. through the president, Atty. Jose V. Torralba; Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Rañola; La Estrella Beach Resort; Brig. Gen. Charly Holganza of the AFP; the Philippine Sports Commission through its Executive Director, Fr. Vicente L. Uy, Dr. Zia Managaytay, Veana’s Laundry and Dry Cleaning, former Gov. and Mrs. Rene L. Relampagos, Engr. and Mrs. Francisco Tubal; and Mrs. Elena T. Punzalan.
