ONCE again, government offers to the artistically gifted and talented Boholano adolescents a rare chance to bring out the best in their skills Filipino artist.
Through the Philippine High School for the Arts (PHSA) at the National Arts Center in Mount Makiling, Los Banos Laguna where future scholars are homed in, the government puts up anew a special program suited for young gifted students.
The school offers special education programs within the government arts institution now home to about 150 artists.
In this year’s annual nationwide search for young arts scholars, the school puts up the 2010-2011 tests and auditions for would-be scholars at the Dr. Cecilio Putong National High School Monday, March 8, 2010, from 8 am to 5 PM, says PHSA Director Fernando Josef.
For the auditions, young artists interested in dance would need complete ballet outfit or skirt for girls and long pants for boys for folk dance, soft pointed shoes for ballet, extra t shirts and music for prepared dance for three minutes.
For the theater arts, applicants need to prepare a 3 minute solo performance in English or Filipino.
For music for instrument and voice, applicants need to bring music writing sheets, musical scores or repertoire, the instrument (except piano) and a minus one for accompaniment for voice applicants.
Applicants for creative writing need to bring a portfolio of sample works and short bond papers.
In visual arts, applicants need to bring glue, paste, tape, cutter, scissors, any coloring medium, brushes, HB and 6B pencils and oslo paper.
Eligible for the test and auditions are Grade VI students who have talents in music (voice and instrument), theater, dance (ballet and folk), visual arts and creative writing.
Aside from the special education program, the school also puts in Basic Education courses in English, Filpino, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, PEHM and Arts studies.
When successful, a scholar with an outstanding artistic ability gets free tuition, board and lodging and monthly allowances, the PHSA poster reads.
Moreover, the PHSA scholars can participate in local and international competitions and be eligible for exchange student programs.
