DepEd Accepts Late Enrollees

The Department of Education 6 (DepEd-6) would still accept late enrollees in public schools within the week but their parents should serve the penalty by doing community services.

Regional Director Mildred Garay said parents of late enrollees should serve a one-day "Brigada Eskwela" as penalty. She said the policy aims to discipline and teach parents a lesson -- next time, they should enroll their children early, which started in January.

Garay said that late enrollees cause quite a delay on their setting up of classroom on Monday because additional students were not anticipated.

“Late enrollees were not counted nor included on the number of chairs and classrooms needed by the schools so some excess students were temporarily placed in vacant spaces just to accommodate them”, she said.

Garay added there are also some reports that several teachers held their classes in temporary shelters like vacant space and lobby inside their school campus to address concerns on overcrowded classrooms. (PNA)
