\-ˈze-shən also -ˈse-\

(n.) The thing possessed; that which any one occupies, owns, or controls; in the plural, property in the aggregate; wealth; dominion; as, foreign possessions.

(v. t.) To invest with property.

(n.) The having, holding, or detention of property in one's power or command; actual seizing or occupancy; ownership, whether rightful or wrongful.

(n.) The act or state of possessing, or holding as one's own.

(n.) The state of being possessed or controlled, as by an evil spirit, or violent passions; madness; frenzy; as, demoniacal possession.

Demonic possession is the supposed control over a human by a malevolent supernatural being or evil spirit. Descriptions of demonic possessions often include erased memories or personalities, convulsions, “fits” and fainting as if one were dying.  Other descriptions include access to hidden knowledge (gnosis) and foreign languages (glossolalia), drastic changes in vocal intonation and facial structure, the sudden appearance of injuries (scratches, bite marks) or lesions, and superhuman strength. Unlike in channeling or other forms of possession, the subject has no control over the possessing entity and so it will persist until forced to leave the victim, usually through a form of exorcism.
