Three Boholano midshipmen reaped awards during the commencement exercises of the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific on July 10-12, 2008 at Kamaya Point, Mariveles, Bataan.

The graduates completed their scholarship and successfully accomplished the course requisites for a Bachelors degree in Marine Transportation (BSMT) and Marine Engineering (BSMarE). Furthermore, they have earned their rank of Ensign in the Reserve Force, Philippine Navy and were being sponsored by more than 20 different foreign shipping companies.

Of the 128 midshipmen of Class 2008, ENS Joseph Eric Bompat PN of Panglao, a BSMT graduate and the Fleet Academic Officer, emerged third in his department's top ten graduates and fourth in the top ten overall ranking of the class. He was also given the Special Achievement Award for obtaining a perfect grade of 1.0 in Math 4; and topping his Mathematics and Science subjects made him the Math and Science Awardee.

On the other hand, ENS Jeffrey B. Lirazan PN of Tagbilaran City, a BSMarE graduate, obtained the fifth spot in his department's top ten graduates and the tenth place in the overall class ranking. He was also the Company Executive Officer of the class.

The Shipboard Training Award was vested to the Company Logistics Officer, ENS John Christopher Lumanas PN, still from this city, after having topped his department's shipboard training. He also ranked tenth among the 64 BSMarE graduates.

Meanwhile, another graduate also held a significant position in the class as the Squadron Adjutant, in the person of ENS Rizanny Paderog PN from the town of Maribojoc who finished BSMarE too.

As recognition to the achievers, the MAAP Parents' and Alumni Association-Bohol Chapter held a thanksgiving buffet lunch at Saya's Restaurant on July 22, 2008.

Testimonies were aired out by the graduates and their proud parents as to how the cadets earned their richly deserved merits, and how they imbued the essence of hardwork to their fellow Boholano scholars who were currently studying at MAAP. (ctheldmoquiala)
