Catigbian Bohol holds pre-Valentine fete

February, the month of love and arts, is one of the most awaited time of the year for it brings romance in the air and beautiful memories for everyone. Traditionally, gatherings and parties are often held to add color and meaning. Indeed, LGU officials of Catigbian headed by Mayor Roberto Salinas and Vice-Mayor Necie Digaum sponsored a pre-Valentine show that showcased the acting prowess of Catigbianons.

“Salingsing sa Gabok nga Kahoy”, a stage-drama under its director, Rev. Fr. Danilo Maniwan, parish priest of Immaculate Conception overwhelmed hundreds of spectators who jampacked at the unfinished gymnasium, the  night before  Valentines Day.

“We are gathered here to celebrate the love month but more than  our presence here is our strong support to our Municipal Scholarship Program because proceeds of this activity will go the said program” Mayor Salinas echoed during his pre-valentine message.

It may be recalled that Catigbian Scholarship Program was legislated in 1999 but its implementation only happened in 2005. However, due to limited funds, only few qualified applicants availed of the program. To date, 24 have availed of the “Iskolar ng Bayan”, which carried a financial assistance of P10,000 per semester for baccalaureate degree and P5,000 per sementer for 2-year course taker.  Of the 24 beneficiaries, 4 have graduated while 2 voluntarily stop schooling due to personal reasons.

With the hope of sending more scholars to college, LGU Officials plan various fund sourcing activities for scholarship program to help augment the scarce government resources including solicitations from generours and kind-hearted Catigbianons who may have a little more in life amidst the financial struggle.

“The projected net proceeds of this activity from our Gold, Silver, Major, Minor Sponsors and admission fee from the general public will definitely go a long way, it assures a brighter future to those students who have right mental capacity but come from low income families”, the retired navy man added.

Actor-director Cesar Montano and his better-half Ms. Sunshine Cruz graced the occasion that culminated around 11:00 o’clock in the evening of February 13, 2010.
