MANILA, Dec. 6 (PNA) -- The Inter-Agency Council on Traffic (I-ACT) has managed to improve the traffic flow along E. de los Santos Ave. (EDSA) despite a significant increase in the number of vehicles plying the main thoroughfare during the holiday season.
Data gathered by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) show that travel time along EDSA on Dec. 1-2 was recorded at 1 hour 23 minutes, with vehicles running at an average of 16.62 kph, compared to the average travel time along EDSA on Oct. 6-7, which was 1 hour 30 minutes with an average travel speed of 15.25 kph. The Oct. data were taken before the implementation of the 'No Window Hours' policy of the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program or Number Coding Scheme last October 17.
The agency did the survey during the off-peak hours, from 12 noon up to 2 p.m. on the said dates.
“We are optimistic that the numbers would improve as we put in place more traffic schemes and measures to further improve the traffic condition in the metropolis, especially during the holiday rush,†MMDA general manager, Tim Orbos, said.
In a survey made by the MMDA on Oct. 17-21, the average travel time along EDSA was 1 hour 19 minutes, a 10-minute reduction from the previous average of 1 hour 29 minutes recorded on October 3-7. (PNA)
