Suspected burglars burned down a food shop early dawn Thursday along Gallares Street this city after carrying out their heist.
Arson and police investigators said the burglars forcibly entered Gravy and Sauce Food Shop in Gallares Street and burned down the business establishment before they escaped.
The fire brought extensive damage to the shop, which also sells dressed chicken, burning most of the interior including a parked multi-cab and motorcycle.
Firefighters were called to the scene by the Tagbilaran City PNP Station who first received the fire alarm around 3:50 a.m.
Fire Officer-2 Esterlito Iroy told dyRD Balita that one of the owners, Allen Uy, estimates the damage at about P1-million.
As of this posting, the owners are still checking what the burglars carted away from the shop. No one was at the premises at the time of the incident.
Nearby business establishments, houses and apartments did not sustain any damage from the fire which was controlled by firefighters in 20 minutes.
The Tagbilaran Fire Station and City PNP are coordinating investigation for arson and the reported robbery from the store.
F/Insp. Manases Bautista, chief of the Tagbilaran Fire Station, said burglars use the modus operandi of burning down houses or business establishments after the robbery to remove traces of their crime.
Last year, Paz Pharmacy, also in Gallares Street, was burglarized and torched by the suspects before escaping.
