South Cebu town beefs up security in beaches, resorts after US Embassy travel advisory
CEBU CITY, Nov. 4 (PNA) -- Local police in Dalaguete town, some 90 kilometers south of Cebu City, on Friday beefed security in their beaches and resorts after the United States (US) Embassy in Manila issued a travel advisory Thursday to American citizens warning of kidnapping risks.
Senior Inspector Abel Laborte, Dalaguete Police Station chief, said they have advised resorts and beaches to get to know their guests and clients who check in to secure their place.
"We cannot relax because it might hit us. Even America became a victim of terrorism, so we can't be complacent," Laborte said.
The United States Embassy in Manila warned its citizens against traveling to areas frequented by foreigners in southern Cebu, specifically around Dalaguete and Santander, including Sumilon Island.
The US Embassy said terrorist groups are planning to conduct kidnappings in those areas in Cebu.
Laborte said the local police force has been augmented by an eight-man team from the Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB) 7.
Laborte said theRPSB team is conducting a 24-hour patrol in tourist destinations in Dalaguete.
Laborte said the Armed Forces of the Philippines is also expected to send a platoon in the town to beef up its security force. (PNA)
