PNP advises public to be careful in posting personal info on social media
MANILA - The Philippine National Police Anti-Cyber Crime Group (PNP-ACG) on Friday advised the public, especially those individuals who are “hooked†on the social media, to take the utmost precautionary measures in posting their personal information.
The PNP made the advisory in the aftermath of the controversy involving basketball player Kiefer Ravena, who was allegedly victimized by extortion using the social media or internet.
PNP-ACG spokesman Supt. Jay Guillermo said that there were many instances that the posting of several pictures, video or even personal messages on social media or viber group are merely being taken for granted by some netizens without taking into consideration whether the same would be good or just bring about danger in their respective personal life.
Guillermo noted that the posting of some personal matters sometimes bring about danger because of the modern technology.
Likewise, the PNP also advised the public never to trust or give personal information to anybody, more particularly with those people who had only been known for a short period of time. (PNA)
