The Bohol ChronicleA major initial of P80 million is ready to start the implementation of the Catagbacan international cruise ship port project in Loon late this year, according to Cong. Edgar M. Chatto.
The First District congressman who strongly lobbied for its realization described the world-class luxury port as another economic entry to Bohol.
Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) General Manager Oscar Sevilla thru Assistant General Manager for Engineering Claro Maranan confirmed to Chatto in a letter dated February 20, 2008 the allocation of P80 million to begin the concrete works within the fourth quarter of 2008.
In his letter, PPA assured to work with Chatto in all other concerns leading to complete conversion of the said port for international cruise shipping.
Engineers from PPA-Manila arrived in Bohol and coordinated with Chatto, the Port Management Office (PMO)-Tagbilaran and local government unit (LGU) of Loon in technically inspecting the site last week.
They will proceed with the preparation of the paln and total cost estimate of the project.
Chatto and other Gov. Erico B. Aumentado discussed the project with Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Ace Durano while river cruising in Loboc during a presidential visit here last year.
Catagbacan could become the country's new global cruise ship port capital, a big boost to Bohol's tourism industry.
The project has been strongly pushed by Chatto, who chairs the tourism committee in Congress, and Gov. Aumentado with the support of Reps. Roberto Cajes and Adam Relson Jala.
