Duterte vows to stop corruption, drugs and criminality to ease poverty

MANILA, Dec. 7 (PNA) -- In a bid to alleviate poverty, President Rodrigo Duterte has pledged to end the perennial problem of corruption, illegal drugs and criminality in the country.

Duterte made the commitment as he graced the Urban Poor Solidarity Week 2016 in Mandaluyong City on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

"Tatapusin ko ang corruption, droga, pati kriminalidad, pati 'yung federal setup," the President said.

He lamented that he has been confronted with many problems everyday, which he said he would try to solve for the betterment of the nation.

Duterte recalled how he has addressed the problem on informal settlers in his home province in Davao City where he rejected demolition until proper relocation was established.

"Noong panahon ko hindi ako pumayag...Hindi naman aso 'yan. Pagkatapos ng demolition, sige bahala na kayo. It ain't that way in this planet," he said.

Duterte likewise believes that the federal form of government will also help alleviate poverty as it is deemed to bring peace in conflict-torn Mindanao.

"If others are really resistant to the idea of a federal setup, without that federalism, the Moro people will never agree to anything else," he said.

The Chief Executive cited the mix of cultures in Mindanao that makes it more difficult for him to unite the region.

"Kung sa panahon ko na may kaunti akong Moro na dugo, hindi ko mai-swing 'yan, nobody can. At itong mga Moro people, hindi na maniwala 'yan," he added.

He again warned about the escalation of terrorism which he said could be the next big problem the country has to face.

"The next adventure that I will embark on is terrorism. Be prepared for that," he said. (PNA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
