The existence of a robbery group composed of Boholanos also operating in Cebu and other nearby provinces was confirmed yesterday by the PNP Regional Office.
PNP Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM) regional chief SSupt. Arturo Evangelista bared in an interview with the Chronicle that three of five suspects in the recent hold-up of a supermarket in Cebu City were positively identified as members of the San Miguel group.
Evangelista, a former Bohol police director, said the robbers were spotted when they fled the crime scene by surveillance video cameras mounted over Cebu City’s main thoroughfares.
These cameras were used by the PNP to monitor and secure delegates of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) held in Cebu City.
The video camera tapes were shown to witnesses who positively pinpointed the three suspected Boholano robbers Casimiro “Meloy†Garcia, Rodulfo “Dupong†Atega and Arsenio “Botyok†Polo.
The two others were likewise believed to be new recruits, according to Evangelista. He could not say however if they come from Bohol or Cebu.
Garcia and his cohorts allegedly robbed La Nueva Supermarket in Cebu City last week.
The three Boholanos are purportedly remnants of the San Miguel group, which involves two other high profile robbers Harris Atega (brother of Rodulfo) and Joseph Moraga.
