An inmate is facing murder charges for stabbing to death last week of a fellow prisoner of the Bohol District Jail (BDJ) now being operated by Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), said warden Renan Torreon in an interview.
Torreon said that strict security measures including constant ocular inspection of the inmates’ cells to get rid of deadly weapons which may be used inappropriately by the inmates have always been in place and enforced accordingly.
Only that they were outsmarted by Bautista of the hidden knife.
Convicted inmate Ian Bautista stabbed fellow Danny Navarro by using a kitchen knife which was hidden or buried underground. Both are charged with murder and other crimes, said Torreon.
He said that they could not determine what was really the motive of Bautista in killing Navarro. BDJ later on theorized that it was sort of personal ill will. Bautista was quoted as saying that what he’d done to Navarro was sort of revenge because the latter one time shot him, said Torreon.
The warden said that the police together with BDJ regional office has conducted an investigation right after the stabbing incident and found probable cause to indict Bautista thus the filing of murder case against him. (RVO)
