A RESOUNDING MAJORITY of
Boholanos has confirmed the declined presence of armed men here.
At least, data from the Bohol Poll of the Holy Name University Research Center showed that 96% of 400 survey respondents said “they have not seen any armed men or rebels in [our] placeâ€.
The survey, which was conducted between February 13 to March 8, also showed that only 4% or the respondents agreed that the presence of armed men or rebels in our place is again felt by us.
The survey result also elates Vice Governor Julius Caesar Herrera who said the job of sustaining the effort to keep people off armed struggle becomes even more imperative for the next leaders of Bohol.
“The whole country has seen the Bohol model for peace; it is not by using force to subdue but digging the roots of the problem that pushes people to be discontented,†the vice governor stated.
By the way things are moving, I have every reason to believe that our reclaiming peace in Bohol has worked well, Herrera said.
But, there should be no stoppping now, he said as he signed the financial assistance to barangays in time for the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) Civic Action in Hinlayagan Ilaud, Trinidad town.
There is something good to hope for, Herrera said citing the recent survey results.
He said the survey proved that there are still a 26% of our people who see a better quality of life in the next twelve months, posting +1 net optimism as over the 25 pessimists.
There is still poverty, presses the survey results. And there is still the problem of unemployment at 11%, he pointed out.
If the next leaders would fail to deliver the promised sustainability, especially if they are blinded with personal ambition, there is so much to lose, Herrera said.
The vice govenor, who has believed that if government would be giving a decent motivation to the agriculture sector, said he could not see why the sector could not put up enough jobs for everyone.
With the government giving the way out of poverty, and itself becoming a model for transparency and accountability, “I could not see any reason why insurgency would be an option for our peopleâ€, he pointed out. (PIA-Bohol)
