Visit BOHOL - another new blog on Bohol
« on: May 11, 2012, 09:17:12 PM »
This blog, Visit Bohol, aims to be a one stop shop for information about the fun island province of Bohol, primarily to a visitor who is a:

* tourist (foreign or local; short- or long-term; new or returning)
* visiting relative
* returning Bol-anon (or Boholano)

Visit Bohol blog is written from the perspective of a homesick Bol-anon who has lived far away in a foreign land for almost a decade now. By writing this blog, the author hopes to somehow ease the longing for Bohol. Personally, this blog is dedicated to the author's children. He wants them to know more about the rich cultural and natural heritage of their parents' homeland, which they have visited a few times already even at their young age.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

I'll be glad to put your article in the blog as a guest blog post (with proper acknowledgment). Just send it to me via email and with an accompanying photo. I'm not familiar with the ongoing TBTK activities this year.

Fair enough, but I'd disagree, of course. It's still early days. This blog is still evolving; for now, it's a travel directory on where to go, what to see and where to stay. There are loads of info out there that needs to be collated into one site so it's easier for would be visitors to have the necessary info to help them decide.

About Boholano blogs, I am saddened that there is a dearth of blogs with substance out there. The few that I read does not update regularly. And there is no 'bloggers network' similar to the Cebuano Bloggers Society and Mindanao Bloggers Society. Maybe someone will take notice and start one?

I also would like to challenge the Bohol Tourism Office to seriously embrace social media to help in promoting Bohol to future visitors (local and foreign alike). They have a Twitter account that is joke. I'm in Facebook but have not checked if they have a popular page. They don't have a website. If money is a problem, you can always create from the free blog sites like Blogger and Wordpress.

Most bloggers are good only in starting but sustaining? There's so much to be desired as to the over-all presentation (e.g., contents are similar... but understandably, because of its competetive nature (to each his/her own)... Like I said most, not all... and I guess the simplest-factor-I-could-use-to-pinpoint-the-demise-of-blogging is people's attitude towards blogging or social networking, e.g. the "Who cares" attitude?!!.

Tan-awa Facebook, kadaghang groups nanulpot sa una... karon hilom pas Bugnaw Cee... maajo lang ug sugod (How do I know? Because I've always been here since 1998 and I was able to observe how things come and go ;D)  Siguro gipangkapoy nag uban (kung sa sinultian pa sa ato, wa pa gani mosikat ang adlaw nilaos na)... nauga nag kurat sa use of social network... balik-balik ang mga gipang post... nahugtan nag laway (og dinokdokay) although new people ar epopping up. Kung na tindahan pa ni (like Walmart, Target, etc), big social network are destroying the once-stable localized/individualized websites and the like. Sa lain pang pagkasulti... ayaw na lang nang uban iapil, Facebook has it all...

Kung di pani Bol-anon ang Tubag Bohol, naangin na sad unta pod nig apil hehehe...  ;D

And not to mention the POWER OF GOOGLE... If you're only reposting an already synched/publicized article/post/music... it means we're just "doubling" the info. All the more the need for original articles to compete with good ones out there...

i clicked the link, briefly gave a look-see to what came out, and liked the design.  i'm still trying to make heads and tails of what a blog is, though, and why you called attention to the idea of a bohol bloggers society or whatever.  my understanding then is that members are needed.

(i'm no techie; it's enough miracle for me that i learned a few little things by experimenting in this forum.  reading fr chic's posts in this thread is also helping me get some ideas as to how things work in cyberspace.  i have no facebook account because my idea of facebook is limited to my kids' and nieces' posed pictures.  i hate those; what are they doing there, displaying themselves to the world?  now i don't even know if my conclusion is correct. ;D

i don't mind being a blogger (which i take as someone who contributes) as long as i have the proper guidance.  so far, i'm contented with tubagbohol where everything under the sun and the planets and the milky way and black holes out there can be had, side by side with the unique boholano humor.  now, this last one matters.  i feel it's the magnet that attracts us all.

but if a blogging kind of society is necessary, as i can glean from you, jig, well, would it be too much to call on tb's webmaster to do the task?  i mean, if he finds the time from his law studies.  hello there, mol!

One can basically blog just about anything (personal hilig, of course). You can blog news, travel, history, jokes, livelihood (like Sir FD) etc. Personally, I prefer to song-blog because that's where I feel most comfortable and video-streaming since I love my limited knowledge of video-making (I don't have a sophisticated video software except the one that came with the PC or laptop hahaha (cheap kaayo). If inspired, I write my thoughts, too, but hardly except when I'm drugged by my creative juices (again, I prefer lyrics than articles  :P). I also love to promote Boholano Music and that I make efforts to blog, too.  ;)

Si Bran Lucino... lami unta kung mosulod pod siya ug MEDICAL BLOGGING kay magamit gyod kaayo. But of course, we have many sites for that like WebMD and even Wikipedia (LoL)... but just the thought that one of your (new) friend is doing it already excites me. Ikaw, Ms. Isle, mo "follow" jud ko nimo because I always love your literary style... and I know, you know that, too. Kamo na lay pag Ms. Isles, ghost-writer sa mga kanhing presidente.  :-X

ms isles, thanks for the brief visit. to be upfront, i only have a basic knowledge on blogging. gi-oido ra naho pinaagi sa pagbasa-basa sa ubang blogs and on how to create one.

kahibawo na siguro ka nga ang blog was the shortened 'web log', which is really just an online journal that someone keeps. if you have a personal blog, then it's like an online diary of your life; instead of keeping it to yourself you broadcast it to the whole world to read.

there are many types of blogs e.g. travel blogs, lifestyle blogs, political blogs and etc. at the moment, i'm hooked on Raissa Robles' political blog (http://raissarobles.com)

as to the bloggers network i mentioned, bunga ra ni sa akong kahimtang karon isip naa sa layong dapit. uhaw kos mga impormasyon about bohol. tinuod, i get to read about bohol history through jes tirol's column in Bohol Chronicle. but what about, for example, nature conservation work in Bohol. sa naa pa kos Cebu, I used to be updated because i get to visit Bohol doing R&D work in collaboration with NGOs and LGU.

nihit ang mga blog about Bohol nga naay substance. ang kadaghanan personal blogs, which is offputting to read most of the time.

i admit usa na kos nag-blog nga dili updated pirmi 'coz i'm spreading myself too thinly. blogging is more of a hobby, which sometimes compete with my work-life balance.

i dont know, but a bloggers network can be a huge work. i have no problem with TB, sige man ko bisita nga way saba-saba. the only thing lang for me is there is information overload, mataudta-uran ra gani ko di kabisita mawa na kos mga update.

the online world is huge, there is always enough room for a bloggers network and a forum about Bohol.

interesting.  a blog is a personal website after all.  (i go for paul krugman's, who i thought can be read in cyberspace because he has a column in the uk's the economist magazine.  i wondered then why he was called a blogger at different times.)  if tubagbohol didn't have members and mike ligalig made entries all by himself, then this forum could have been a blog.

i believe the information overload in this forum goes with the territory.  it takes in just about anything and does not specialize in any subject.  i'm glad it is so.

i agree and this is where a discussion forum like TB and a blog differs. it caters to different tastes. the similarity is that you can make comments. discussion forums can be more real time with many people online at the same time and you can see them. you cant do that in the blog.

a blog can be run like a business like say, a magazine. are you familiar with Huffington Post? i'm not sure if it still is but it is actually described as a blog. so-called professional blogs like Pro-Blogger is owned by one person but articles are submitted and published from other bloggers.

a blog can also be run by a community of bloggers writing on a niche topic. this is where a bloggers network on bohol can come in. people with expertise on history, lifestyle, arts, culture, business, environment can join together and publish blogposts/articles on one blog on Bohol.

huffington post is one site i often visit.  it's so up-to-date with world news.  but let me ask you now about brass tacks.  what do bloggers get aside from the exposure?  like good wine, writing well takes time, so are bloggers paid for their work?  can the credits of their blogs be stolen?

yes!  no achievement should come easy.  i still remember one article about those young figure-skaters of olympic stature.  if ever they make it look easy, it's because they have put in grueling hours of punishing practices and have sacrificed a lot in their growing years.  no wonder i was never cut out to be an olympian.  i never skated again after my first fall.

quid pro quo is the name of the game.  mons. rudy villanueva's grades suffered terribly when he spent most of his waking hours writing as renato madrid.  (that's according to my brother, who was a freshman college at the seminary when mons. rudy was a senior).

banana republic cried when michael jackson died.  knowing him, i bet he's not familiar with any michael jackson music.  but he said, "look at what the guy offered at the altar of his art."  hasta ako, cry-cry na lang pod hinoon bisag di mi kaila ni michael.

what does a serious blogger sacrifice then?  probably hours of sleep and a breaking back.
