Youth willing to dance Cha-cha but “not nowâ€Oct. 29, 2006 Bohol Standard
IN their 9-campus sorties gathering youth feedbacks on the government-pushed charter change (cha-cha), majority of the youth are willing to take to the dance floor, to do the Cha-cha, National Youth Commissioner Richard Alvin Nalupta said; “but not now.â€
The same opinion was shared by about 5,000 youths in their Youth Voice sorties. This also collaborated with the results of the Pre-National Youth Parliament Konsultahan Kabataan.
However, while the youth are for amending the Constitution, they would rather delay the move, Nalupta reports in his state of the youth address during the opening of the 6th National Youth Parliament at the Bohol Tropics.
Nalupta also admitted that there are several youth leaders who are now pushing for charter change, especially with the bias for the federal form of government.
In the midst of realizing that they are a formidable force and voice in the country, National Youth Commission has embarked on a media plan by tying up with national television to educate the youth on vital issues especially on the charter reforms.
The Youth Voice Television debate, Nalupta said, has been a venue to inform the youth of the most pressing issues concerning charter change. Given in a quite interesting format, the one-hour debate program gives equal airtime for pro and anti charter change, he told the media gathered during the rites.
The NYP opened at the Bohol Tropics Resort Sunday with 226 participant delegates registering as of opening rites.
Organizers said more attended, especially that the venue, Bohol has jacked up so much attention. (rachiu/PIA)
