December 9, 2001 - Bohol Sunday Post - POBLACION'S bet Stephanie Perez went home 8,000 pesos richer-after winning the Miss Baclayon 2001 crown in a pageant Wednesday night that lasted into the wee hours of Thursday.

Thirteen proved to be lucky for Perez. From a field of 13 contestants, she went on to win the title, the trophy and the cash that went with it, plus the right to represent the town in next year's Miss Bohol Sandugo search.

Perez also romped away with the coveted minor awards Best in Swimwear, Best in Interview and Best in Gown.

First runner-up, now Baclayon's entry to the search for next year's Miss Bohol Tourism is San Vicente's bet Marfe Balintag while second runner-up is May Catubig of Taguihon. Balintag won 5,000 pesos and a trophy, and the Miss Diet Cole award. For her part, Catubig won 3,000 pesos, a trophy and the prizes for being Miss Telegenic and Best in Production Number.

Guiwanon's Flordelyn Verano bagged the Most Photogenic and Miss Pons Body Fitness awards while Dasitam's Jean Cantoria won the Miss Avon title.

Helen Valeroso of the island barangay of Pamilacan was Miss Lux while Jolie Ann Paduelan of Tanday was Miss Congeniality.

Montaña's Joan Nistal was the Special Designer's Choice while Cyrea Tima of Santa Cruz was Miss Talent.

Each minor award came with a trophy and cash.

Gov. Erico Aumentado and Miss Baclayon 1999 Rosela Pateña crowned this year's queen. Pureza Chatto, wife of Rep. Edgar Chatto of Bohol's 1st District and Fr. Justino Estoque, chair and member of the panel of judges respectively, donned the cape on and presented the scepter to Perez.

Barangay captain Roberto Talip of Poblacion and Perez' parents presented the bouquet to the winner while Mayor Benecio Uy and his wife Elena handed to the winner the trophy and cash prize.

On the other hand, Vice Gov. Julius Herrera and beauty titlist herself Melanie Wallace, member of the panel of judges, crowned Balintag. Barangay captain Lydia Lamdagan of San Vicente and her parents presented her with a bouquet.

Former 1st district Provincial Board (PB) member Isabelito Tongco representing Cong. Chatto and Agnetha Manhilot, Miss Baclayon 1999 first runner-up, handed to Balintag the trophy.

Incumbent 1st district PB member Felix Uy and his wife, Baclayon municipal councilor Marilyn Uy were the presentors for the Best in Interview.

Completing the panel of judges were Jocelyn Ferniz and Wilfilda "Baby" Collins.

Meanwhile, all barangay captains who fielded candidates received plaques of appreciation from the contest organizers-the Local Government Unit of Baclayon and the Baclayon United Lady Achievers Club led by its president, Elena K. Uy.
