Son, not father Caberte, running for prov’l board
Published January 31, 2001 - Bohol Chronicle
Sevilla Vice Mayor Emmanuel Caberte will no longer run for mayor but instead seek a provincial seat in a sudden decision that could deprive the unprecedented February 5 pre-poll balloting in the said town.
Caberte presently heads in Bohol the Vice Mayors’ League of the Philippines, a factor that would bolster his Sangguniang Panlalawigan candidacy.
His withdrawal from the mayoralty race against senior Kag. Ceferino Digal was agreed in last-ditch meeting brokered by Rep. Erico Aumentado.
As a consequence, Caberte’s father, Provincial Board Member Severino Caberte, will waive his reelection slot in favor of his son.
However, a source privy to the crucial meeting told the CHRONICLE that the young Caberte will run in the third district board ticket of Aumentado.
The Cabertes have long been identified with Gov. Rene Relampagos, but blood could indeed be thicker than water since the mother of the vice mayor is a sister of the congressman’s wife.
The young Caberte would have submitted himself to the pre-balloting against Digal.
Digal is now the automatic common official mayoralty candidate of Panaghiusa and is assured already of over 5,000 votes.
Panaghiusa, a name given to the all-party unification in Sevilla, has more than 5,000 card -bearing members who are all qualified, registered voters. Sevilla has only 6,000 voters.
