Talk on heritage churches held in Bohol
The University of Bohol played host to the talk entitled “
Hidden Treasures: Spanish–era Churches in the Philippines†last August 22, 2012.
The talk is organized by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI) Culture & Heritage unit and the Ortigas Foundation Inc. (OFI).
It focused on Filipino heritage churches built during the Spanish Period. These churches are featured in the traveling exhibit, dubbed, “Hidden Treasures: An Exhibit of Spanish-era Churches in the Philippines,†which is set to open in the Municipal Hall of the town of Maribojoc on August 23.
The churches are also featured in the book La Casa de Dios: The Legacy of Filipino-Hispanic Churches in the Philippines by Fr. Rene Javellana, SJ.
Beatriz Lalana, the main speaker of the talk, was one of the photographers of the heritage churches featured in the exhibit and in the book.
Dr. Jocelyn B. Gerra, executive director of RAFI Culture & Heritage, said that RAFI is glad with the partnership with OFI and the University of Bohol and hopes that the talk will be the start of more collaborative efforts between Bohol and Cebu that are working in the field of heritage.
Culture & Heritage, one of the focus areas of RAFI, aims to help communities understand, value and share their cultural identity with others. The foundation’s other focus areas are Integrated Development, Micro-finance & Entrepreneurship, Leadership & Citizenship, and Education.
