CIDG takes lead in drive against loose firearms

The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group here are taking the lead against the proliferation of loose firearms.

CIDG head Insp Ricaredo Flores said his team would be conducting raids on identified holders of illegal firearms.

“The location and holders of these illegal firearms are now in our list and we only need the necessary search warrants from the court to conduct the raids,” he assured.

Loose firearms are traced as contributing factor to the numerous armed robberies hitting the province in the past months. Aside from robberies, shooting to death incidents also indicate the high number of firearms falling in the wrong hands, criminal investigators said.

Flores however urged the community to be vigilant and report any sighting or information of people holding these illegal firearms.

Positive results were made this week in the intensified campaign against loose firearms as police nabbed a habal-habal driver tucking in his waist a .357 Magnum revolver with live ammunitions in a checkpoint in Buenavista town.

Another police operation in Ubay the other day yielded firearms in a house earlier put under surveillance through the help of a vigilant community.
