published by the Bohol Sunday Post

Bien-Unido Mayor Rey Niño Boniel has returned home after his trip abroad. He was the guest speaker of a convention organized by the Rotary Club of Manly Incorporated Australia. It was attended by four Rotary Clubs in Sydney.

"I am very much honored to have the opportunity to thank in person the people behind the Project Philippines," Mayor Boniel said.

The town of Bien Unido has been the recipient of the international assistance for the past eight years. The Rotary of Club Manly, Inc. is providing Computer Learning Center to help graduates obtained a better employment due to their acquisition of the basic knowledge in computer.

The Rotary Club of Manly, Inc. also provided reading eyeglasses, books, medicines, typewriters, television for school, computers and recently, the digital sterilizer for the town's local clinic through Dr. Lydia Camus of Bateau Bay of Central Coast.

"I wish for the unity of the Rotary Clubs in Sydney in helping my town and my people so that one day when you will visit us in the Philippines, you will take pride of telling the whole world that Bien Unido- a well united and developed town is in your making because of your tremendous assistance," Mayor Boniel added.

Mayor Boniel also received an electrocardiogram (ECG) from Dr. Lydia Camus. ECG is used to measure the rate and regularity of heartbeats as well as the size and position of the chambers, the presence of any damage to the heart, and the effects of drugs or devices used to regulate the heart.

This ECG is very important especially that we hold free medical missions," he stressed.

The Rotary Club of Manly, Inc. will also donate P100,000 for the town's participation of the Sinulog 2008 in Cebu City. (See related story in 'bout u.)
Mayor Boniel's visit to Australia was greatly welcomed by the Filipino community who enthusiastically participated in the event by showcasing the Filipino folk dance.

"The Filipino spirit is still strong even in foreign country," he said.

A new Filipino Library in Sydney is now open wherein Mayor Boniel has donated books to the library.

Mayor Boniel, 28, is the second youngest mayor of Bohol. The Bien Unido town has a population of 22176 and the town is popular of its seaweeds industry.

A such kind of projects and supports as what the Rotary Club in Manly, Australia doing is eminently respectable.

Another young promised  (Mayor R. Boniel) in Bohol....it seems we are on the right way....New young talented/active men are needed like Mayor J. Jumamoy in Inabanga.  Mike, how about  you?  Got no interest to enter into politics?  You have the assets and talents or  you think Politics is a dirty  business?   By the way, is Bien Unido near Talibon?  I never heard this before...when we memorizes the towns around Bohol during  elementary school days.
