For we are God's co-workers; you are God's field, God's building. According to the grace of God given to me, like a wise master builder I laid a foundation, and another is building upon it. But each one must be careful how he builds upon it, for no one can lay a foundation other than the one that is there, namely, Jesus Christ. -1 Corinthians 3:9-11 Each one of us has different spiritual gifts and talents given to us by God. It is our duty, then, to use those unique gifts to serve Him. One way that we can use those gifts is within our relationships and marriages. Together, a couple can accomplish more as a team than they could ever accomplish on their own.
Like most couples, my wife and I share very different talents. I am the laid back, creative one, and she is the organized taskmaster that keeps us headed in the right direction. My weaknesses are her strengths, and my strengths are her weaknesses. We balance each other out in every way.
One common trait that we share is our faith. It may manifest itself in different ways, but we are on equal ground otherwise. I like to enrich my faith through reading, writing, and speaking about it. She is someone that likes to serve others, especially those less fortunate. We each use our different skills to further the Kingdom of God.
Why am I sharing this? My goals for Waking Up Catholic go beyond this website. Eventually, I would like to publish a book and begin speaking (professionally) about the topics I cover here on a regular basis. For the most part, this site has been my baby, but now, it's time for my wife to jump in, as well.
Obviously, I will continue to use the creative talents God gave me to move things along (writing, creating code, designing artwork), but I am going to begin involving her more in the day-to-day operations of Waking Up Catholic. To make this ministry grow, it will take her unique talents and gifts to help organize and carry out our plans.
For a long time, this has been seen as "my" project, but in order for me to find any success as a writer and speaker, I will need her help. So from this point forward, you may see her (virtually) around Waking Up Catholic more. Please welcome her and say "hi."
Each day, my goal with the Daily Bible Verses is to look at a piece of scripture and teach you how to apply it to your life. Today, I hope that I have given you more than just words, but my example to follow. In your relationships, your marriages or otherwise, how can you use your unique talents to build up the Kingdom of God?
In the end, we are all co-workers in the Church. The foundation has been laid for us by Jesus Christ, and we each help to build the Church, brick by brick.
