Australia's gas output is expected to eclipse Malaysia's by 2020.
The country is also poised to overtake Norway to become the third largest gas producer among the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) nations by 2035, driven mainly by the booming liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector.
By this stage, Australia's gas output will only be surpassed by the United States and Canada, according to the International Energy Agency's Annual World Energy Outlook report released overnight in London.
Australia's gas output is also expected to eclipse that of Indonesia's by 2025. - pna
