ugh, there are just too many claims about dandansoy. courtship dance. tuba dance. whatever. it's better to bring it down to its most basic and most believable...
it's originally an ilonggo song, claimed largely by the negros occidental ilonggo (hiligaynon) rather than the aklan ilonggo (kinaray-a). it's popularity though had it translated into other visayan languages. there's even a tagalog translation.
leyte claims the song too; so does cotabato. cebu and bohol i guess simply sing it; being good singers, no claims to its origins are needed.
it was composed in the 1930s by ilonggo poet augorio abeto. the abeto family name is certainly ilonggo. this is the first time i came across a name like augorio.
dandansoy is a name of a boy. some claim that it's a "derivation... from five words, a very rare occurrence if not impossible in any visayan language morphology". well, i still have to meet a guy named dandansoy nowadays.
payao is a place in binalbagan, negros occidental. the sample youtube video starts with the chocolate hills. don't tell me our tarsiers claim they composed the song?
