Idle lands in Pangasinan, ideal for agricultural crops
By Danny O. Sagun

DAGUPAN CITY, Pangasinan (23 June 2005) -– Some 1,600 hectares of unutilized lands in Pangasinan are set to be planted with various agricultural crops, it was learned today.

Assistant provincial agriculturist Dalia Aquino said that the idle lands, mostly located in the mountain areas of eastern and western Pangasinan, are suitable for crops like corn, mango, coconut, and cassava.

The coastal areas of Dasol town in western Pangasinan were also targeted for fish production, she added.

The development of new agribusiness lands is a joint project of the Department of Agriculture and the provincial government. Gov. Victor E. Agbayani and the DA entered into a memorandum of agreement last month to jointly pursue the project.

Meanwhile, rice stocks in the province is good for the next three months per inventory of commercial, government and household stocks, according to economist George Terrado of the National Food Authority Lingayen branch.

He said that the food agency continues to sell rice at P16 per kilo for the regular-milled rice and P18 for the well-milled variety. Commercial rice in the markets is presently sold at P20 to P24 per kilo.

Except for the towns of Sta. Barbara, Agno, Infanta and Anda, all municipalities in province have Bigasang Gloria outlets in the public markets. NFA information officer Marissa Jacinto disclosed.

The Bigasan outlets are retail stores dedicated to selling pure NFA rice. Retailers in the four towns with no Bigasan outlets have opted to sell NFA rice in their individual capacity, Jacinto said.

The two NFA officers said that the NFA rice stocks in the warehouses are well-maintained and protected from rats and other infestations.

Some 10,000 bags of rice are consumed daily in western Pangasinan. The daily requirement in the eastern part is a little less, they said.

Aquino and the two NFA officials guested this morning in the weekly Pantongtongan Tayo radio program of the Philippine Information Agency over Radyo ng BAyan-DZMQ. (PIA Ilocos)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
