Samar barangay captains still support Gloria Arroyo
by Ninfa B. Quirante
Tacloban City (24 June 2005) -- Determined to overcome the challenges of political crisis, divisive animosities, global war on corruption, President Gloria-Macapagal-Arroyo gave her word that when the time comes, the Filipino people could expect an appropriate response to the issues at hand.
The President further said that the greater problems that face the nation are the economic challenges and pressures that are being compounded by threats of destabilization.
Citing this irresponsibility, she added that it is the ordinary Filipino who takes flak for the folly of some political leaders and their cohorts. She then vowed to fight hard to maintain the resiliency of the economy while keeping destabilizers at bay. Leaning on the trust and confidence of the business community as well as the continuing support of other sectors, the President once again vowed to fight corruption and create jobs through more investments.
Though Samar province does not openly exhibit its support to the Prsident, the Liga ng mga Barangay, President Calixtro Rosal in Catbalogan town still believes that GMA can hurdle the controversies that hound her and that she can take on the task of keeping our economy strong with a focused resolve.
Inside the Liga ng mga Barangay, Rosal assured that some 80% of the barangay captains in Catbalogan still support the President; however, like evryone else they would like to know the truth behind the wiretapping scandal. (PIA-Catbalogan)
