Cambridge Prof delivers OMB Integrity Lecture
22 January 2014

The Office of the Ombudsman held its 3rd Integrity Lecture Series entitled “Current Issues in the War Against Corruption” on January 14, 2014 with Prof. Barry A.K. Rider from the University of Cambridge as guest lecturer. Prof. Rider earned his LL.B. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of London, and also obtained his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Cambridge.

In his lecture, Prof. Rider focused on the importance of transparency on disclosure, with emphasis on international cooperation, witness protection and incentivizing whistle blowing. He also cited the growing trend of elite enforcement or specialized enforcement agencies in anti-corruption.

Former Ombudsman Simeon Marcelo, Fr. Albert Alejo, Lead Convenor of Ehem! Aha! Movement, and Dean Antonio La Viña of the Ateneo School of Government served as panel reactors.

The open forum was facilitated by Commissioner Ma. Ngina Teresa Chan-Gonzaga of the Presidential Commission on Good Government.

In her culminating address, Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales remarked that “(l)ess opportunities for corruption mean more funds for the delivery of government services, which ultimately translates to a fairer chance at an improved quality of life for every Filipino.”
The Ombudsman Integrity Lecture Series aims to communicate and engage the public and private sector on the various programs and projects of the Office of the Ombudsman to further build a broad-based strategic partnership of all anti-corruption stakeholders.

In partnership with the Asian Development Bank, United Nations Development Program, USAID and Metrobank Foundation, the Lecture Series is part of the Ombudsman Integrity Caravan seeking to engage advocacy partners and promote dialogue on good governance, integrity and anti-corruption topics leading to a coordinated multi-sectoral effort against corruption

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
