MANILA (24 June 2005) -- "President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has never benefited from the proceeds of illegal gambling."
Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesman made the statement after Lingayen Archibishop Oscar Cruz linked the First Family to alleged money laundering and "jueteng" payoffs.
Bunye questioned the timing of Cruz's accusations as they were brought forth at a time of mounting efforts to destabilize the Arroyo Government.
He said the present administration is seeing a grand design to weaken and undermine the national leadership through a conspiracy of deception.
The Palace official said he respected the Archbishop's views but pointed out that he maybe an unwitting pawn in the clandestine plans of the opposition.
Meanwhile, Bunye conveyed that the government's fight against "jueteng" has been without let up and there is no doubt that it will be eradicated within the time frame set by President Arroyo. (PIA-MMIO)
