Dumaguete cracks down on hot motorbikes
By Rachelle Nessia
Dumaguete City (31 January 2006) -- Dumaguete City has been tagged as the 'Motorcycle City' in the country due to the abundance of motorcycles in the city. However, this has also led to the proliferation of illegally operated motorbikes.
This spurred the Provincial Police Office and the Dumaguete City Police Office to join forces and launch a crackdown on hot motorcycles in the city.
The crackdown dubbed as "Operation Kilum-Kilum," resulted to the confiscation of about 100 units of single motorcycles which are now impounded at the City Hall compound.
Most of the impounded vehicles did not have plate numbers, no head and tail lights while the drivers did not have registration and driver's licenses, among others.
Fines range from P100 to P1,000. (PIA)
