Palace favors revival of Spanish subject in High School
Published 2010

Malacañang favors the revival of Spanish subject in private and public high schools in the country.

Deputy Presidential Spokesman Gary Olivar said there was nothing wrong in bringing back the Spanish subject in high school.

Olivar, in a media briefing today in Malacañang, said the Spanish subject would be an elective subject unlike before that it was compulsory taught in private and public high school in the country and 12 units in college.

He also said that it would help the students to speak a little Spanish language since the country had been under the Spanish occupation for more than 400 years.

Olivar said that many of Filipino words were rooted from the Spanish language because the country was under the Spanish regime for more than 400 years.

”I don’t see anything wrong in teaching Spanish subject, I think its helpful for kids to be given the opportunity to learn about because it is after all almost 400 years of our pas, under the Spanish regime,” Olivar said.

He said the planned resurrection of Spanish subject in high school would be elective, meaning if they do not feel to enroll with it then it would be the student’s choice.

The Department of Education (DepEd) plans to introduce again the Spanish subject as an elective subject in both private and public high school in the country beginning this coming school year.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
