Let the people be heard

Iloilo City (31 January 2006) -- Vox Populi, Vox Dei. The voice of the people is the voice of God. Malacanang has heeded this call, after carefully studying and listening to what people really want.

For the first time, Malacanang, through Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita has categorically stated that elections for Parliament will push through in 2007. There is now no stopping the move for charter change towards the Parliamentary system.

Malacanang has always said that it will be the people who will ultimately decide whether to hold an election or not. The recommendation of the Consultative Commission was only just that - a recommendation.

It is time to bury the No Elections proposal once and for all so that preparations can be made for the proposed elections. The No El was not a viable option, in these times of political crises, as seen from the various reactions of politicians, even from the administration party, the opposition and the church.

We have seen the same old faces, lording it over in our political system. It is high time to elect fresh new faces, faces whose only agenda is service, and faces who can bring a new vision and fresh breath to the political arena.

Let the people express themselves. Let them exercise their right to be heard. (PIA)
