Zero record on labor strikes in Northern Mindanao
by Becky P. Esguerra
Cagayan de Oro City (27 June 2005) -- PEACE has so far reigned in the industrial sector with only eight strikes registered in the first five months of this year or 27% lower than the 11 cases last year, the Department of Labor and Employment national office said.
In Region 10, however, DOLE Regional Director Ponciano Magsayo Ligutom is proud to claim that no single strike has been reported during the past seven years.
He credits this laudable achievement to the active role of the Tripartite Industrial Peace Council, a venue to resolve and maintain industrial peace in the concerned sectors.
Magsayo is expecting that this venue shall become even stronger with the signing of the 2005 Social Accord for Industrial Peace and Stability for Region 10 recently, where more than a hundred representatives from the
labor, management and government sectors gathered to forge the pact in Cagayan de Oro City.
This move is in line with the 10-point agenda of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as she acknowledges
labor’s discipline and forbearance, the mark of a true ally in the Rule of Law and Constitutional adherence. (PIA-10)
