Cebu officials accept apology
By Minerva BC Newman
Cebu City (28 June 2005) -- Local dailies Cebu Daily News and The Freeman reported today that Cebu officials heaved a sigh of relief, welcomed the president's admission and accepted it as "just a lapse of judgment."

"The speech served its purpose. PGMA has spoken, admitted to some impropriety, and apologized. It diffused the tension," Cebu Gwendolyn Garcia said in an interview with media.
Cebu City mayor Tomas Osmeña thinks it was a nice, heartwarming statement. "It shows she is candid and honest. I hope that after this, we can just move on," Osmeña said.

Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) President Robert Go said, "it's time to move on. The business sector is already battered black and blue and politicians should stop all the bickering and focus on how we are going to improve the economy and better the lives of the Filipino people."

Bayan Muna-Cebu secretary general, Arman Perez on his part called on the resignation of the president. "if the president is sincerely seeking the trust and confidence of the Filipino people on the impropriety of her action, then she should immediatly resign."

Congressmen Antonio Cuenco of Cebu City South district and Simeon Kintanar, Cebu, Second district welcomed and accepted the president's apology saying, she did not commit any violations in her conversation with a comelec official and that the conversation did not change the result of the elections. "We should forgive her," Cuenco said.

Meantime, Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal was quoted as saying he was worried over the future of the country and apprehensive over what might happen after the burial of Manila Archbishop Jaime Cardinal Sin.

Through Cardinal Vidal's medical attendant, Dr. Rene Bullecer said that the opposition had been calling the Cardinal for guidance and prayers on their plans against the administration.
Bullecer said, the Cardinal shared his thoughts on the president's situation. The Cardinal was quoted as saying "Gloria is sitting on a tripod-with former president Fidel Ramos, NBI Director Reynaldo Wycoco and DILG Secretary Angelo Reyes propping her. The moment the three legs fall, I don't know what will happen to her." (PIA)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
