ABC eyes more investments in Mindanao
Cagayan de Oro City (27 June 2005) -- THE ARMM (Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) Business Council, in cooperation with the Growth with Equity in Mindanao, is set to hold the 4th ARMM Business Congress (ABC) on 28-29 June at the Datu Amirbahar H. Jaafar Covention Center in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.
The ARMM Business Congress is an annual gathering of businessmen, key business leaders, top government officials and non-government organizations in the region.
The two-day congress will hold a series of plenary sessions on various issues and concerns affecting business and investment growth in the ARMM.
According to Marlon Libot, team leader of the Business Support Organization Development, the activity helps in promoting investment specifically in the areas of transport infrastructure, educational reforms, telecommunications, seaweeds production and marketing, governance and cross-border trading between ARMM and the Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP EAGA).
There will also be special presentations from various successful companies in ARMM and other government agencies on tourism, employment and investment opportunities. Key industry leaders will also be invited to serve as resource persons.
The upcoming event is aimed at promoting ARMM as a premier investment in Mindanao. To achieve this, the congress aims to discuss vital issues and concerns that hinder efforts of the local business community to generate investments and increase productivity in the region. ARMM traders will also look at the policy recommendations that will further entice local and foreign businessmen to invest in ARMM.
In a related development the recent UBS Investment Research Report discussed the improvement of the country’s fiscal position.
Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said the “report affirms the surging confidence in the Philippines as we strive to clear all stumbling blocks on our road to economic recovery and breach the skepticism over our capability to address our fiscal problems.†(MEDCO/PIA-10)
