Ilonggo leaders pledge full support for GMA
Iloilo City (30 June 2005) -- Ilonggo leaders led by Senate President Franklin Drilon once again pledged their full support to President Gloria-Macapagal-Arroyo, as she visited the city for the fifth time around since January 2005.
In introducing her, Sen. Drilon even invited the President to hold office in Iloilo because here she does not have a problem as to the people’s support and confidence. While Arroyo enjoys support from other parts of the country, she has it the most in Iloilo, Drilon said.
With every mention of her name and the _expression of support from local leaders, the President got long strains of applause from the audience.
Iloilo Governor Niel Tupas welcomed her with his _expression of unqualified support which was met with another round of applause. Tupas took the celebration of the Filipino-Spanish Friendship Day as an opportunity to say “without fear of contradiction†that “Iloilo had never wavered in their support.†The electoral mandate that Ilonggos had given her had not diminished an ounce, Tupas added. The governor presented the resolutions of support from the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and the League of Municipal Mayors, Iloilo Chapter. (PIA)
