Cebu City (27 June 2005) -- Government efforts in tax collection are paying off. The Bureau of Internal Revenue posted a two hundred million peso-overshoot in April which established a milestone in its revenue program.
The year-to-date growth rate for 2005 stands at 13.6 percent, the highest since 1998. This remarkable achievement likewise gained improved public perception of the bureau.
A recent survey of enterprises on corruption by the social weather stations indicates a steady decline in reports of bribery connected with income tax payments.
BIR Commissioner Guillermo Parayno said he is pleased with the improved public acceptability rating of the bureau and vowed to double efforts to rid the bureau of corrupt men and women.
In Central Visayas, Zora dela Cruz, BIR public information officer, revealed that the regional office also exceeded its target collection for the 2nd quarter of this year. (PIA 7)
