Nutrition month celebration emphasizes good nutrition early in life
Iloilo City (28 June 2005) -- This July 2005 nutrition month celebration calls attention again to the need for ensuring good nutrition for every individual early in life for optimum health and psychosocial development.
Regional Nutrition Coordinator Nona B. Tad-y said that the celebration’s theme which is, “Batang may kinabukasan, sa wastong nutrisyon simulan” builds on the gains of the last two years’ themes which focused breast feeding and complementary feeding.
Mrs Tad-y also said that these themes have been showing the primary concern of government on good nutrition during pre-school age as a crucial step in the building of a “bright child”.
The National Nutrition Council (NNC) of the Philippines said that preschool children, aged less than 6 years old, needs adequate food to grow and build his/her body, plenty of energy and resistance to fight common infections.
Given the right kinds and amount of foods at the right time, young children are assured of their fundamental right to food and proper nutrition, the NNC further said.
Further, the NNC cited that a well-nourished child is healthy, strong and alert and has good disposition while growing at a normal rate, hence they tend to perform better in school and more productive when they reach adulthood.
A poorly nourished child, on the other hand, is sluggish, lethargic, and frequently ill because of low resistance to infection. Prolonged inadequate food intake in the early years of life, coupled with frequent bouts of infection can lead to malnutrition, NNC added.
Meanwhile, in making the month-long nutrition month more significant, Mrs. Tad-y said that the different agencies of government, local government units, and the various stakeholders, can do their share.
They can hang streamers, pray the nutrition prayer and pledges during their flag ceremonies and support feeding programs in their communities, and promote nutrition programs for preschool children. (PIA 6)

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
