ECPAT, Terre de Hommes-Netherlands launch new book on child traffickingQuezon City (23 June 2005) -- THE END Child prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes (ECPAT) Philippines in partnership with Terre de Hommes-Netherlands will launch a book titled “Endangered Generation: Child Trafficking in the Philippines for Sexual Purposes†on Friday, June 24, at Hotel Rembrandt in Quezon City.
Endangered Generation is a product of a research project from 2003 – 2004 that has recorded child trafficking practices for sexual purposes in Metro Manila, Laoag City, Bicol, Cebu, Dumaguete City, Cagayan De Oro City and Zamboanga City.
Victims who were interviewed were minors when the crime happened and those were 18 and above during the time of interview but below in the year 2000.
ECPAT Philippines Executive Director Dolores Alforte said the study ‘aims to inform the populace on how the children suffer and get affected during and after their grim experiences under the hands of traffickers.’
As for Terre De Hommes Regional Coordinator Frans Van Dik, Endangered Generations seeks to make the public understand the phenomena of trafficked children and to strengthen the struggle against child trafficking.
The book also shows proof that internal and cross border trafficking of children for sexual purposes is real and to provide bases for different agencies to learn more about the illegal practice.
Both ECPAT Philippines and Terre de Hommes-Netherlands hope that Endangered Generation will help government agencies, non-government agencies and other child rights advocates plan programs and activities to stop trafficking in their areas. (PIA)
