Job generation program yields results in five months
Quezon City (25 June 2005) -- The government's concerted effort in creating six to 10 million jobs by 2010 is finally paying-off.
Presidential Management Staff Chief Rigoberto Tiglao revealed that the job generation project yielded 1.1 million jobs in its initial five months starting in January 2005 as reported by various government agencies.
He added that developing two million hectares of land for agribusiness; creating three million micro, small and medium enterprises (SME) through credit financing and technology and marketing support; developing industries like housing, tourism, mining, export, and ICT are key components of the program.
Agribusiness accounted for 99,730 jobs; micro-enterprises created 15,123 jobs due to increased loans totaling P3.4 billion in three months; Technical Education and Skills Development Authority's Kasanayan at Hanapbuhay enrolled 10,678 apprentices; and Department of Tourism's aggressive tourism campaign created 98,837 jobs.
SMEs gained from the standardized guidelines and lending rates of government financial institutions (GFIs) under the SME Unified Lending Opportunities for National Growth Program increasing loans to P7.2 billion for the first quarter forming 90,224 jobs. (Beat-the-Odds Infobits Service)
