Employees grab a COLA
Quezon City (25 June 2005) -- Here's another way to quench your thirsth. Employees rejoice as the Department of Labor and Employment gives an additional P20
cost of living allowance (COLA) to minimum wage workers in Central Luzon on June 16, 2005.
Acting on its own, the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) did not wait for a petition to increase wages citing increases in prices of goods, transportation and power rates as
enough reason for the wage hike.
The wage board composed of DOLE, Department of Trade and Industry, National Economic and Development Authority and management and labor representatives, unanimously approved the effectivity of
wage order no. RBIII-11.
As specified in the
wage order, the minimum wage for non-agricultural sector in Central Luzon are: P263.50 (Bulacan), P259.50 (Bataan, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Tarlac and Zambales), P217 (Aurora).
Through the
wage hike, DOLE Sec. Patricia Sto.Tomas hopes to encourage the business sector in the region to adopt schemes in productivity improvement such as time and motion studies, quality circles, and
labor-management cooperation. (Beat-the-Odds Infobits Service)
